Multitable Gives Back To Desert Botanical Garden
The MultiTable team was honored to join the Desert Botanical Garden team when they officially revealed the new Marley Horticulture Learning Lab on Saturday, March 3, 2017. The new lab features six donated MultiTable manual standing desks that have been customized to safely lift at an angle and tilt like an architect’s drafting table.
The MultiTable hand crank standing workstations will allow the Desert Botanical Garden to achieve higher engagement with their students, versatility with their space and flexibility in their use for the different audiences that will be utilizing the new learning center. The education department at the Desert Botanical Garden will be able to offer new programs such as a Botanical Artistry class where students can utilize the custom drafting style desk tops that MultiTable customized especially for the learning lab.
“Our goal was always to provide a learning environment where students didn’t just sit in a traditional classroom and listen to a lecture, while watching a slideshow for two hours.” Said Tina Wilson, the Director of Education at the Desert Botanical Garden. “We want our students to be active in the their learning process by doing and practicing in a safe environment, not sitting and listening and MultiTable helped us achieve this.”
“MultiTable is honored to be donating to the Desert Botanical Garden,” shared Drew de Weerd, President of MultiTable. “It’s very humbling to be part of such an amazing group of people working hard to create such an incredible learning center for the Phoenix community. We had no hesitation when it came to the donation for the Desert Botanical Garden.”
The 140-acre botanical garden located in Papago Park has more than 21,000 plants, one-third of which are native to the area, including 139 species which are rare, threatened or endangered. There will be approximately 300 new plants added to the collection located in the Marley Horticulture Learning Lab.
Initial planning for the learning lab started 3 years ago and it wasn’t until February 1 of 2016 when the Desert Botanical Garden finally broke ground to start construction. A longtime volunteer veteran of the Desert Botanical Garden approached MultiTable with the Botanical Garden vision of including height adjustable desks in the Marley Horticulture Learning Lab.
