Standing Up For Health With Standing Desks
The news is everywhere! Sitting is not just bad for you, it’s downright dangerous. Study after study proves that the more you sit, the more likely you are to die. The latest study to jump on board comes from the University of Sydney. Researchers followed more than 200,000 people to show a direct link to the amount of daily sitting time with the likelihood of dying. They adjusted for age, weight, physical activity and general health status, all of which can affect the risk of death.
The study’s simple message is that spending more time standing and less time sitting prolongs life.
The results proved that adults who sat 11 or more hours per day had a 40 percent increased risk of dying in the next three years compared with those who sat for fewer than four hours a day!
The study also proved that, while exercise helped, it didn’t significantly reduce the risk of death from sitting. It’s still important to work out daily, of course, but it’s at least equally important to stand more every day.
